Week 2

Competition Countdown – Week 2

Heading into week number 2, it is now 10 weeks out from the first NABBA Taranaki Champs.

My first week of contest preparation became challenging when I got sick with my children’s cold.
Unfortunately the medication I take for my arthritis compromises my immune system so I can’t fight off bugs that easy anymore.
But this didn’t stop me from making progress last week.
I usually train 2-3 days in a row then have a rest day but instead I trained one day and then rested one day.
When I did train my weights weren’t as heavy as usual either.
I focused on doing 2 mild cardio sessions on the exercycle everyday morning and night with another goal of trying to sweat out this cold.

I think I have dropped 1kg so that is a good start especially as it was Christmas and New Year celebrations still going on.

If I am to impress myself on the 10 of March I really need to average 700 grams a week. I won’t lose 700 grams each week but it will average out that way by the time competition day comes around.
With the female body and its hormones etc you can not be hard on yourself if the scales do not move every week. This is when patience is needed. If you are doing all that you should be then have faith in yourself.

On the days when I felt my worst I worked on my routine and clients routines.
I was lucky in a way that it was raining as we couldn’t get out and about much so it was a week of board games and movies for the children.
Boy did it rain.
We were supposed to go camping with my brother for New Years Eve but we cancelled. My brother still went and camped through it all, and they had a fantastic time to.

Finally today the sun is shining.

As week 2 progresses I am starting to feel better and better, just a nagging cough hanging around now.

My rheumatoid arthritis is behaving it self rather well.

When I get sick it seems that my body is so busy fighting off the invaders that it forgets that it is usually attacking my joints.
With Rheumatoid arthritis your cells can’t recognise bad cell’s from good cell’s anymore which is why the drugs that suppress the immune system work better.
This of course leaves us open for infection and then no immune system to fight with.
For some reason my body is identifying with germs and so therefore leaves my joints alone for awhile.

But in saying all of that, the Rheumatoid may have improved because of the very clean eating that I am doing.
Every time I compete my arthritis does improve.
Hard to know the “what’s and why’s” so best to just enjoy it while it is gone.

My mini goal for the rest of this week is to start practicing my poses more.
Because I am doing a NABBA Competition I need to practice poses on both sides of the body. (If I am wrong can someone please message me with the correct poses)?
I also need to get out my Killer Heels that we have to wear in the figure section.
Being a Busy Mum and Personal Trainer I don’t wear high heels at all anymore so much practice is needed.

I was always told not to compete in NABBA as I am not big enough muscle wise.
My objective since the rheumatoid hit is always to impress myself. I don’t need to worry myself about the bigger muscled ladies.

My focus is to look as great as I can look.

It actually saddens me when I see people compete that just want to look bigger and better than someone else. They might have made great improvements on their physique since they last competed but they can’t see it.

I think it is good to have someone to admire to look like as long as they have your kind of body type.
I always look and see what type of presentation stands out on stage.
Having “The X factor” also takes you a long way.
This is when you shine out from everyone else, it could be a gorgeous smile, a subtle confidence, holding your head up and being proud to be there, or if your performance is well prepared and executed in a modest way.
Once the competition day rolls around all the hard work is done and your main goal should be to have a fabulous time, staying present in the moment.

The way to achieve all of the above is and always will be Preparation Patience and Practice.
The 3 words that always repeat themselves, 3 words that hold so much power no matter what you goal.

I guess it must be time to start showing some progress pictures (for you Tarsh).
So as the weeks go by you may find that I am dressed in smaller and smaller outfits, none of them quite as small as the bikini I will have to wear on the day.

No way that I can fit that bikini at the moment!!!!!!!!!

I will also show pictures of some of my meals, its not as bad as some people think. Its just simple clean eating with less carbohydrates.

This is a picture of my chicken salad. I like to have 1 piece of my daily fruit cut up into my salad to keep it moist. As the weeks go by that will have to change but for now it is so yummy.

Awesome blog. Look forward to the updates and totally agree that its a pity the focus at comps can sometimes be dictated more on size than symmetry (my favourite part)... that beautiful balance from head to heels while mainitaining a strong feminine presence, instead of a harsh manly one. You are a beautiful representative of the sport xx
